Helping you take the next step in your writing career

Writing Resources

Here’s a list of some resources that might inspire you or help you learn something new. I’ll update this list and the version in my eBook every now and then, so make sure you’re on my email list and check the “Exclusive Goodies and Updates” box.

Leave a comment if you know another great resource that’s not on the list!

Books

Quitter, by Jon Acuff. The book that started it all, about bridging the gap between your day job and your dream job.

On Writing, by Stephen King. Half memoir, half writing manual about how to persevere through the early years and keep working after you’ve found “success.”

Bird by Bird, by Anne Lamott. For the days when writing seems overwhelming and hard.

On Writing Well, by William Zinsser. Because there comes a day when you have to take it to the next level.

The War of Art, by Steven Pressfield. Because when you’re doing something that matters, resistance will find you.

The Dip, by Seth Godin. A great tool to help you know when to keep pushing through and when it’s time to drop a project.

Yeah, I know those aren’t parallel. Sue me.

Online Writing Classes

AndiLit.com. College professor and friend Andi Cumbo-Floyd teaches a variety of online writing classes, including grammar essentials, creative non-fiction, and short story.

TribeWriters. Sensei Jeff Goins offers an online course focused on getting your writing the attention it deserves.

Other Stuff

My go-to writing playlist (it’s almost Pavlovian. I hear this, I write.)

Twitter for new Tweeps. A basic intro to Twitter for the Technophobe

My web host. Because a self-hosted blog says “I take myself seriously” for less than the price of a coffee each month. I host several sites on Bluehost and they’ve never let me down. I recommend them because I use them. So you should, too.

The Fine Print

By the way, some of the links in here are affiliate links. That doesn’t mean someone paid me to list their resource, that’s not how I roll. I won’t recommend something unless I love it.

But once I’m recommending it, if I can get Amazon or whoever to throw me a little slice of their pie at no extra cost to you, then I’m gonna take them up on it. Because, well, my kids like pie. So thanks for clicking on through.
